The Kirk Naylor Collection comprises materials gathered by University of Omaha President Kirk Naylor (later University of Nebraska at Omaha Chancellor). Materials in the collection date from 1932 through 1991, with the majority from 1966 through 1971. The collection includes four scrapbooks of news, correspondence, pictures, and other material. Each scrapbook has a different theme: 1) General Documents, 1966-1971; 2) Acting President - OU Financial Crisis - OU/NU Merger Related Documents, 1966-1967; 3) OU/NU Merger Related Documents, 1967-1968; and 4) "UNO 54" BLAC (Black Liberators for Action on Campus) Sit-In Related Documents, 1969-1970. The collection also includes an assortment of biographical information, photographs, correspondence, certificates, news clippings, newsletter articles, and political cartoons (original artwork) relating to Naylor's time at OU and UNO, along with his personal educational documents, including his Master's and Doctorate, both from the University of Kansas, 1947 and 1952 respectively; University of Kansas commencement bulletin, 1952; State of Kansas School Administrator's Life Certificate, 1950; McPherson College Class of 1941 Alumni Certificate; Kansas Public Schools Diploma, 1932; and Covert Rural High School Diploma, 1936.
The collection is open for research use. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, the Nebraska Public Records Statutes (Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 84-712 through 84-712.09), and other relevant regulations. Confidential material may include, but is not limited to, educational, medical, and personnel records. Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in this collection without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual's private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which the University of Nebraska Omaha assumes no responsibility.
