UNO Integrated Library System Selection Records
The UNO Integrated Library System Selection Records cover the selection and implementation of the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (III) integrated library system (ILS) software used by the University of Nebraska System. The University of Nebraska at Omaha and University of Nebraska--Lincoln libraries were at the time using the Library Information Retrieval System (L.I.R.S.), an Automated Library Information System (ALIS) from DataPhase Systems Inc. The planning process to select a new ILS began in 1986. After soliciting twelve vendors, seven proposals were received in 1988. In 1989, a contract was negotiated with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. for the INNOPAC software, which was to be used at all University of Nebraska campuses--the University of Nebraska--Lincoln, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and University of Nebraska Medical Center. UNO's implementation of III's INNOPAC was locally named GENISYS (GENeral Information SYStem). GENISYS went live in 1990 and was used by the UNO library until 2012. This collection includes the correspondence, meeting minutes, and agendas of the UNO and UNL committees involved in the selection process; consultant information and reports; requests for proposals from UNO, UNL, UNMC, and Kearney State College; information regarding rejected vendors; information from site visits to libraries to see fully implemented ILSes in action; vendor evaluations, comparisons, and recommendations; articles and working papers consulted; and UNO implementation documentation, budget information, training materials, committee records, public relations, and promotional materials for GENISYS. The collection includes original documents, photocopies, printouts, and handwritten notes.
