Freshman Leadership Council Welcome Card, 2011

 Item — Object: FLC [1]

The Freshman Leadership Council Welcome Card is a giant greeting card. The front of the card reads "Welcome 2011 Freshman" with the Univeristy of Nebraska at Omaha logo and mascot, and a background collage of images of the unviersity. The inside of the card contains the printed text, "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go."--Dr. Seuss. Both the left and right panels of the card interior, along with the entire back panel, are filled with signatures.

From an email from Bret Harrell, Student Body Vice President, University of Nebraska at Omaha, Sigma Phi Epsilon, NE Beta Chapter, to Les Valentine, University Archivist, dated November 21, 2011:

The 2010-2011 academic year was the inaugural year for the Freshman Leadership Council . . . The inaugural group's first (and only) successfully funded and completed project was the creation of an 8 foot by 8 foot welcome card, which was signed by several hundred students in April of 2011. This card, which includes a quote from the late Dr. Theodore "Seuss" Geisel, was then presented to the freshmen of the Fall 2011 class at the University's inaugural freshman convocation in August of 2011.
