Cowdin, Hugh P.
Hugh P. Cowden joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska at Omaha as a journalism instructor in 1968. He became the first chair of the Department of Communication at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, formed by the 1975 merger of the Department of Speech and Department of Journalism, and served in that position until his retirement in 1995. Prior to coming to UNO, he taught at St. Joseph College in Indiana and Duquesne University in Pennsylvania. He held a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. He was awarded the UNO School of Communication's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
